Early Days

Amir Albazi is an Iraqi-born Swedish MMA fighter born in 1993 in Baghdad, Iraq. Amir and his family fled the war in the middle of the night to Syria, where they stayed for a while, then moved to Kurdistan and later moved to Sweden. He lived in the Stockholm district intended for immigrants, where Amir struggled to survive and fit in.

As a teenager, he became a member of a gang and got into many street fights, which led him to the MMA Gym. His immigrant mentality is the main asset responsible for his current success in sports.

Amateur Career

In his amateur career, The Prince first opened the door to MMA at the Fightzone Stockholm club, and then in 2013, he joined the famous London Shootfighter gym, where he has remained since 2021.

He has been training since age 14, wearing a purple belt in BJJ and winning six Swedish championships in gi and no-gi. Albazi also won the Scandinavian Championship three times, the European Championships three times, and two Asian Championships, where he won the first gold for Iraq in BJJ and once managed to become the World Champion.

Professional Career

Amir appeared professionally for the first time in 2009 when he was only 16 years old and managed to be undefeated for ten years. He debuted at World Ultimate Full Contact, defeating two fighters in one night. After 14 years, Amir has recorded 17 wins, five knockouts, nine submissions, and three decisions, and has only one loss by decision.

Albazi has fought in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States in smaller organizations such as SFC, Bitva Roku, Scandinavian Fight Nights, and Fightstar Championship and also made his name known with two matches on Bellator and two on Brave CF. After 13 fights, 12 wins, and only one loss, he arrived at the UFC, where he debuted in 2020.

This young fighter has so far fought five matches for the Dana White organization, where he recorded victories against Malcolm Gordon, Zhalgas Zhumagulov, Francisco Figueiredo, Alessandro Costa, and Kai Kara-France.

Achievements in Martial Arts

In addition to his success in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we mentioned. With his incredible debut at 16, where he defeated two men in one night, Amir Albazi has enriched his career with two titles in two different organizations. Already in his second match for Ultimate Challenge MMA, he captured the vacant UCMMA Bantamweight Championship in his seventh professional match in 2015.

Amir returned for more glory the following year when he defeated his opponent by kimura in the first round and won the belt in another organization, the Fightstar Championship in the bantamweight category.

The Most Incredible Win

The spotlight of the most impressive victory surely goes to his last showdown, which took place in 2023 against former challenger for the interim title, Kai Kara France. This fiery flyweight bout lasted for 25 minutes, and the result was razor-thin, even though many would say controversial.

Nevertheless, with the victory over the former title challenger, Amir, as a fresh and undefeated UFC fighter, went a step further towards the flyweight title, no matter how close people thought the match was. Albazi tried to impose pressure right from the start, and Kai was always there to respect the striking exchange, in which he was much more successful.

The intense match also had a touch of wrestling, where Amir secured one of nine takedowns and Kara-France two of two. However, Albazi had one close submission attempt with a rear naked choke and control over the opponent for over six minutes. Despite the damage inflicted by Kara-France, Amir won in the eyes of the judges and took the battle by split decision. His ground game paid off even in this close match.

Daily Training Gear

Amir treads his way to the flyweight championship in top-quality fighting equipment, including Fairtex and Hayabusa shin guards with high-quality protection and MMA hybrid gloves from the Sanabul brand, safe for him and his training partners. As a safety addition, as Albazi improves his striking skills, he uses RDX kneepads, which are perfect for adding Muay Thai moves when you need to work with your knees.

While The Prince tests his power punches on the pads, his hands are safe in the Fairtex gloves. On the other hand, for speed training, Amir uses irreplaceable Rival gloves and Headgear whose density is ideal for such performances. Still, their quality can also be transferred to sparring sessions and working on heavy bags.
